I’ve had a good run here. But I’m afraid our time together at Substack has come to an end. Or I should say, our time is going to come to an end, pretty soon.
As of the end of this month, October 31st (Happy Halloween), I’ll be shutting down the Substack. Paying customer? First off, thank you. Also, don’t worry, I’ll be going in to refund your subscription the final week of this month (it will be prorated for whatever time you have left, even if it’s almost a year). The mechanics of that seem easy, but just bear with me when October ends and I’ll try to make sure I get everything right. It should not be difficult. And you obviously know where to find me. I’ve re-opened my DM’s on Twitter as well (@LockyLockerson) in case issues come up as we get into November and you want to shoot me a note.
Why is this happening? Well, it’s actually not for bad reasons. And sometimes these things shut down for bad reasons. Sometimes it’s sad, to be honest. Not really in this case. Actually, this went well. We got a community of a couple thousand people together, and I wrote about betting. It was cool.
To be honest, it’s just about my available time now a year after launch, and how things are changing. This year, the radio show is on to way bigger and better things. It’s on television, on satelite radio, and my demands for that show, and how much time I want to put into it, are increasing rapidly. My own betting is also taking off at an unexpectedly high rate of speed. And when those two things are doing that, this is just kinda the thing that’s gonna get left behind. Just the way it goes, only so many hours in the day, etc. etc.
For the rest of the month, I will keep writing posts, if you want to stick around. The weekly free Sunday post. The CFB Stoplight for a few more weeks. I’ll have an NFL Stoplight next week. And I’ll write a pre-season NBA awards post on the way out the door too, because as always, I am obsessed with awards.
If you’re on a monthly and want to call it quits ASAP, I totally get it, and you have my thanks! But to everyone at all tiers, this was really fun. Let’s do it again sometime, when I’m not being pulled in too many directions.
Ken
I agree with all the positive comments, thanks Ken. I plan to let my subscription run its course and will follow you wherever I can find you. I have learned an absolute s***ton from you and think about point spreads, win totals, and the profile of a champion all the time. The way your head works is exceptional and I'm sure you're going to be wildly successful in whatever direction you choose. If I ever see you in person I'm buying you a hat.
Definitely learned a lot from you Ken! Sincerely thank you so much for everything. The post you made where you referenced the “pistachio” analogy forever changed my thought process on how to think, approach and make valuable bets on awards/everything else. At least we all still have YBYB! All the best to you and the family.
